Christian Juttner’s legacy
For a brief time in the 1970s, Christian Juttner was everywhere, appearing in popular adventure movies and television of the day. He is perhaps best known for his starring role in a pair of 1978 movies, “Return From Witch Mountain” and “I Wanna Hold Your Hand.”
“Return From Witch Mountain” was the sequel to Disney’s “Witch Mountain,” and featured aliens, supernatural powers, and family-friendly adventure. “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” meanwhile, launched the career of director Robert Zemeckis, who later directed hits like “Back to the Future,” “Forest Gump,” and “The Polar Express.”
Juttner got his start in the early 1970s, when he appeared on episodes of “Bewitched” and “Ironside.” After a smattering of roles in the years ahead, the young actor’s career took off in 1976. That year, he had roles on “The Bionic Woman,” “Wonder Woman,” and “Ark II.” He had an even bigger year in 1978, appearing in three feature films – “Return From Witch Mountain,” “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” and “The Swarm” – along with the made-for-TV movie “The Million Dollar Dixie Deliverance.”
But he retired from acting just a few years later, appearing in a few television shows – “Trapper John, M.D.,” “The Magical World of Disney,” among others – before his final role, a 1981 appearance in “General Hospital.” He went on to open a glassworks business.
