Dave Butz (1950–2022), legendary Washington defensive lineman

Dave Butz was a legendary defensive lineman for Washington who helped the franchise win two Super Bowls.   

Washington Football Legend 

Dave Butz played college football at Purdue University where he was a first-team All-Big Ten selection. He was drafted in the first round of the 1973 NFL draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, playing there for two seasons and was traded to Washington in 1975. He thrived with Washington, anchoring a defense that won two Super Bowl championships. He played in the Pro Bowl in 1983 and his 59.5 sacks are the third most in franchise history. He retired after the 1988 season and was selected to the NFL 1980s All-Decade team and is in the College Football Hall of Fame.
