Gustavo Badell (1972–2023), “The Freakin’ Rican” bodybuilder

Gustavo Badell was a bodybuilder known as “The Freakin’ Rican.” 

Gustavo Badell’s legacy 

Born in Venezuela, Badell settled in Puerto Rico as a young man, continuing the bodybuilding he had begun as a teen in his home country. He began competing in the 1990s and took part in the famous Mr. Olympia contest seven times, placing third in 2004 and 2005. He was also a frequent competitor in the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival as well as other bodybuilding competitions. Badell took first place at the 2005 Ironman Pro Invitational and the 2006 San Francisco Pro Invitational. 

After he retired from competition in 2012, Badell promoted MuscleTech dietary supplements and became popular in social media as he shared photos and videos of his life and bodybuilding.
