Musical career and beyond
Carson got his start as a session musician in Branson, Missouri. His career began to expand after he moved to Nashville. There, he began recording demos for established musicians including Reba McEntire and Tim McGraw. Carson’s 1995 self-titled debut album was a breakthrough for him, yielding his only No. 1 country hit, “Not on Your Love.” He followed that single’s success with “The Car,” which climbed to No. 3 and won him an Academy of Country Music Award for Video of the Year. Carson’s later singles included “Holdin’ on to Somethin’” and “Butterfly Kisses.” In 2009, Carson retired from music and became a police officer in Franklin, Tennessee, though he released a handful of singles in later years.
