Beasts of the Southern Wild
Jonshel Alexander played the role of Joy Strong when she was 12 years old in the critically acclaimed 2012 movie “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” The film, which was directed by Benh Zeitlin, told the story of a poor community in the Louisiana Bayou threatened by a storm through the eyes of a child called Hushpuppy, who was played by Quvenzhane Wallis. Alexander played her friend Joy. According to the New Orleans Advocate, Alexander was involed in dance and acting classes as a child. After graduating high school, she worked in restaurants and took care of her daughter.
