Philadelphia 76ers Star
Lucious Jackson was an All-American at Pan America College (currently University of Texas Rio Grande Valley). He was a member of the U.S. men’s basketball team that won the gold medal at the 1964 Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan. Jackson was drafted fourth overall in the 1964 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. As a power forward with the 76ers, he won the NBA championship in 1967 playing alongside Wilt Chamberlain. He played his entire career with the 76ers, was named an NBA all-star in 1965 and averaged almost 10 points and 9 rebounds per game, retiring in 1972. The rap/rock band Luscious Jackson named themselves after hearing an ESPN announcer mispronounce Lucious Jackson’s name.
