Maria De Aragon’s legacy
Born in Montreal, actress Maria De Aragon’s career began in the 1960s with small, uncredited roles in “For Those Who Think Young” (1964) and “Nightmare in the Sun” a year later. She earned her first credit in Italian cinema when she appeared in 1968’s “Come l’amore.”
The 1970s saw De Aragon appearing in a number of so-called exploitation films, including “Blood Mania,” “The Cremators,” “Wonder Women,” and “Teenager.” After a long hiatus – she did not act in the 1980s – her last role was in 1991’s “Street Wars.”
A role that simultaneously became her best and least known came in 1977, when she made an uncredited appearance in “Star Wars,” playing the bounty hunter Greedo, famously shot by Han Solo in the Mos Eisley cantina. De Aragon wore a mask for the role and did not receive an on-screen credit, so for many “Star Wars” fans, her involvement was unknown, revealed only by the “Greedo in high heels” behind-the-scenes photos.
