Mark Nichols’ legacy
Nichols began riding the rails semi-regularly in 1989, doing so largely anonymously for years. He began sharing his stories and exploits via a blog in 2010 and then, more famously, on YouTube in 2012. Millions of people watched his videos, in which Nichols offered his extensive knowledge of trains, as well as survival tips, travel memories, stories of encounters with law enforcement, and more. He traveled the U.S. and Canada, and once even traveled to Greenland and Iceland on a fishing boat.
Notable quote
“I believe life is full of learning lessons, some have to be more hard than others if you are to ever learn that lesson.” — from a 2010 blog entry
