Maurice Hines’s legacy
Hines and his brother danced together from a young age, sometimes in a trio with their father, called Hines, Hines & Dad. They performed with Cab Calloway (1907–1994) and on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” The brothers’ most prominent work together was in “The Cotton Club,” in which they played the tap-dancing Williams Brothers.
Hines also had a prolific career on his own, primarily on stage. He appeared on Broadway in such shows as “Eubie!” “Bring Back Birdie,” and “Hot Feet.” He toured the U.S. in several productions, including a tribute to his brother, 2013’s “Tappin’ Thru Life.” Hines’ TV appearances included “Love, Sidney,” “The Equalizer,” and “Cosby.” Hines was profiled in the documentary “Maurice Hines: Bring Them Back.”
