American Movie
Schank was best known for his role in the cult favorite “American Movie.” The documentary chronicles the making of the short horror film “Coven” by independent filmmaker Mark Borchart. Schank was Borchart’s best friend and was by his side helping him film “Coven,” so he was a prominent part of “American Movie,” as well as composing its music. Fans loved his quiet humor and his frank honesty about his struggles with alcoholism and gambling addiction. Among Schank’s most memorable moments in “American Movie” was a bloodcurdling scream he recorded for “Coven.” Later, he appeared in movies including “Storytelling” and “Hamlet A.D.D.,” and he played himself in an episode of “Family Guy.” Shanck also released albums including “Songs I Know.”
