Rockabilly Revivalist
Robert Gordon grew up in Maryland idolizing Elvis Presley. He was in the 1970s New York City punk scene, leading a band called the Tuff Darts when he was discovered by producer Richard Gottehrer. Gottehrer recruited legendary guitarist Link Wray and Gordon’s debut album “Robert Gordon with Link Wray” was released in 1977. The pair released a second Rockabilly album the following year with Elvis backing vocalists The Jordanaires as special guests. He worked with guitarist Danny Gatton on his most popular album, “Are You Gonna Be The One,” released in 1981. That album featured the Marshall Crenshaw penned track “Someday, Someway, which made it to number 76 on the charts. The song would be an even bigger hit for Crenshaw in 1982. Gordon also released albums with noted guitarist Chris Spedding and the pair has an album scheduled for release on November 25th titled “Hellafied.”
