Legendary Tennis Coach
Nick Bollettieri was a pioneering tennis coach who worked with some of the best players ever. He was not a top tennis player but became a tennis coach and dropped out of law school to focus on that career. He started the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in 1978 in Bradenton, Florida. The academy and boarding school trained promising junior tennis players from all over. His academy turned out many legendary best pro players including Andre Agassi, Monica Seles, and Jim Courier. Venus and Serena Williams worked with him at the academy, along with Maria Sharapova and Mary Pierce. He was a traveling tour coach for Andre Agassi and Boris Becker. Bollettieri was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in 2014, only the fourth coach to have the honor.
Notable Quote
“I forged my own path, which others found to be unorthodox and downright crazy.” “Yes, I am crazy. But it takes crazy people to do things that other people say cannot be done.” – He said in his induction speech in 2014 at the Tennis Hall of Fame
