SOUTH BEND - Lewis L. "Boots" Washington Sr., 77, of South Bend, IN passed away on Friday, February 18, 2011. He was born on July 8, 1933 in Greensville, MS to the union of Wallace Washington Sr. and Annie Jones. Both parents preceded him in death. Lewis "Boots" Washington Sr. worked at Sibley's Foundry for more than 30 years and retired from there. He was a Mason, and very proud of that accomplishment. He loved being around friends and family. He also loved hunting and was well known for his barbecue. Those left to cherish his memory are six sisters, Lucille Washington and Juatuan Brown-Washington, both of South Bend, IN, Mary M. Edwards, of Gary, IN, Essie Warren and Charlie May Smith, both of Denver, CO; two brothers, Henry Jones of Chicago, IL and Emmitt Jones of Denver, CO; a son, Lewis L. Washington Jr.; stepdaughters, Angie Faye Perkins and Cindy Salway; two grandsons, Mike Sherrod and Randell Washington; granddaughters, Angie Brock, Darvel Williams, Shonta Johnson, Sweetie Lacy; lifetime friend and companion Alberta Winston; best friends, Rollin Span and Angie Cureton; nieces, Dean Washington, and Gwen Keys; great-nieces, Sheri Washington and Amanda Keys; nephews, John (Yolanda) Washington, Carl (Rose) Washington, Eddie Washington, and William Washington; along with other relatives, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Darlene Washington; a brother, Wallace Washington Jr.; his wife, Leah Washington; and a nephew, Dennis Washington. Services for Lewis L. Washington Sr. will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home Inc., 2702 Lincoln Way West. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and then services at 12 Noon.
