Link Wray was a Guitar God May he rest in peace

I am very sorry for your loss as a family. It is so hard to lose a loved one be it a father or brother, uncle, son or friend. It must also be hard to know that in this case he is missed by so many thousands of fans. I knew of Link when I was quite young, my neighbor would play him for hours starting in the morning on Saturdays while working in his garage. This would be mixed in with the likes of Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and others that were slinging out good riffs and a western swing feel. I remember asking him what that sound was and he introduced me to the power of Link and his driving guitar. It's been many years and with great sorrow I will say I did not know until recently of his passing. So in a better late than ever fashion I would like to send all my condolences and prayers to the Wray and extended families.
God Bless

I would be happy to send you some photos taken back in the late 50's when I played with Link Wray, if you will tell me how? My name is Steve Forest. The one photo was taken at a bar known as "Someplace Else", in the suburbs of D.C. I played rhythm guitar, keyboard, sax and harmonica.

Link may be gone in body, but as long as one copy of Rumble or Rawhide exist he will always be with us. I took my CD reissue out right after I heard the news and it still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up as it did the first time I heard Rumble in "58". The old Hound Dog,George Lorenz at WKBW in Buffalo NY used to love that song. Saw Link live only once in "59", but it's still there in my mind as if it were yesterday. My best to all of Link's family, and may he rock forever.

Dear Family,
When I was at college in Geneva, NY, in 1963 or 64 or possibly 65 my fraternity hired Link and his band to play for a party. It was the best party we ever had. Imagine hearing "Run Chicken Run" live in a room about 20 x 50 feet!
Link must have been a magnanimous person: he traveled a long way to entertain our small group of beer-sodden young men and their dates. We spoke with him and the other Wraymen during their breaks and felt honored. I got Link's signature on the worn orange cover of one of his albums--possibly his first. After I left home, my mother threw it away. Anyhow, he had a great sound and I hope it comforts you to know that he added something memorable to my life.
Regards.

A memorial is being held in Fredericksburg, VA on December 10th at 3pm. All are invited to remember our dad with us.

The last time I saw Link was in 1965 at Glen Echo. He shared the bill with Little Richard. That was rock'n'roll !

I had the privilege of seeing what was probably one of Link's last US shows, at BB King's this past spring in New York City. His haunting amp-driven rumblings and darkly atmospheric chord compositions put a chill up my spine throughout the show. He appeared frail but yet robust, and I knew at the time that I needed to savor each moment of the show, because that chance may not come again. Now, as he sits up there in some celestial sphere with a choir of fellow departed rock greats, may he keep on strumming and picking!
Love ya Link!!!!!

The first time I heard "Rumble" I was hooked. I was never the same again. Everything after that sounded like bland corn flakes except for Link. God bless you and thank you for a wonderful tune filled ride. See you on the other side.

I 1st heard Link Wray as a little kid( 1964 or 5) my oldest sister had his greatest hits album, I saw him at the pychedelly in Bethesda MD a couple of times in 1977 1978
then with Tex Rubinewitz at the Wax Musuem( Wash DC) in 1983( I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn a month before that @ the same place) Link Wray invented heavy guitar, he never got the true credit for his genius, until he is inducted in to the RnR hall of fame, I will consider the hall of fame to be bogus, my most sincere condolences to his family and friends
Good by Link, you are still the coolest!!!!!!!

Link Wray was one of the greatest. When I got my first electric guitar I tried to make it sound like Link's, but that never happened. I will always cherish having grown up when he was the driving force behind "electric" guitar music.

Saw the dynamic Mr. Link Wray perform at the historic Norshor Theatre in Duluth, Mn. in April 05. Wow, what an awesome evening of outstanding "bringing down the house" musical magic performed by a gifted pioneer of Rock-n- Roll. Myself, along with hundreds of Duluthians whom attended that show, will remember a class-act who went out on top- the zenith. Thanks for the legacy you left behind Wray, opening the doors for so many who can only fill a fraction of your enormous footsteps. Rest-In-Peace and God Bless all you family.

I had the pleasure and honor of being part of Links' "Family" band in the early 70's in Tucson, Az. He was simply the greatest guitar player ever and one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure to know. Rest in peace my friend.

Your were known for your ability to play the quitar and that was something that came natural. Well our son Charles Fricks has that natural ability and waiting a chance to show it off.He is also waiting for his talent to be shared with others. Link Wray & His Wray Men's hit single Rumble in 1958 was and still is one of my favorite guitar recordings. Raw-Hide would be my second favorite. Link, I'll be thinking of you at the next hop. You're in awesome hands now. Enjoy. Dan Terry MR. D.J.

From the time I first heard "Rumble" as the opening music for the "Son of Svengoolie" show, I was hooked. His version of Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" is an overlooked classic. Rest in peace Link.
