Elizabeth Barter Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Barter SAN MARCOS -- Elizabeth (Betty) Barter passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2012, surrounded by her loving husband, Russell, and children. Her last two years were shared with her husband in an assisted living facility in San Marcos, Calif. Elizabeth A. Henderson (Barter) was born in Minnesota in 1924. She grew up on a farm run by her grandfather. She entered the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1944 where she served her country for several years. It is while at the USO dance that she met and fell in love with her future husband, Russell Barter, a Navy Seebee. They were married in 1951 and for the next 60+ years together, traveled to Europe and Hawaii, were active members of the Rotary and Elks Clubs, loved Square Dancing and RV Camping, and also spending time with family and friends was very important. Betty Barter is survived by her husband, Russell E. Barter; brother, Arthur (Bud) Henderson; her children, Ann, Art (Lori), Debbie (Mary Lee), and Sandy (Larry Swain); and grandchildren, Christopher (Rosie), and Jennifer; along with many wonderful lifelong friends. The family of Betty Barter wish to thank the staff at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of San Diego County, for their loving care during her final six months. Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 8, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, San Diego County, Calif. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Women In Military Service for American memorial Foundation, Inc. (www.womensmemorial.org), or to the Lake Elsinore Elks Lodge # 2591, P.O.
