My deep condolences to the Tumilson family and friends

I knew this great warrior from the sea when in comm school. Jon knew his radios and he was the best , very intelligent, thoughtful, gracious, a very cool shipmate to get along with, he was comical at times, but can be focused when assigned to get stuff done. I remember too, him PTing after class with his fellow NSW shipmates, and he would sometimes have his big dog to the side of him.
Thank you God, Lord Jesus, for having me met Jon, a great guy. And, thank you Jon for giving an example to what a man should strive and being a true American Patriot.

Very Respectfully,
ET1(FMF/SC/SW) ret. GP

To anyone reading this who was related to John or knew John. He was the most humble S.E.A.L. I've ever known. He never talked about work. He never bragged. He was an amazing warrior when he had a rifle in his hands he would dismantle the enemy. He lived as he died as a warrior. With no regrets. A week before he died he told me that whatever happened on the last mission we had that he was ready. He was at peace. The most fond memory I have of John is when he graduated Green Team and we proceeded to come up with an interesting nickname for him which I'll leave out. He said "thank you" like we just gave him a medal. He didn't ever hate anyone nor did he hold grudges. The two of us had been on over 400 mission together and he had saved my life countless times. When my third marriage fell apart he introduced me to my current wife. He was what we call in Special Operations a true hero. He earned it. He earned everything. At the end of the day when I was an instructor in Green Team and he was going through it as a student. I asked him why he was even going through selection and he said the most pure reason because he wanted to protect others. That was John. He changed the world around him and there's not a guy in Devgru who doesn't love John. Lastly John I'm sorry I didn't protect you.

To the family of Special Warfare Operator PO 1st Class (Seal) Jon T. Tumilson:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.

Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Respectfully,

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Tumilson Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

My humble song for Jon and his fellow "Brave Warriors" lost in

I wrote this song "Hero's Hearts" to honor Jon and our other 29 Brave Warriors" who recently gave their lives defending our precious freedoms. Please pass my humble song on to all the families of our other 29 "Fallen Heroes" (SEALS, Special Forces, Army & Air Force) who died that day so that we can continue to enjoy the freedoms so many people take for granted in our great land of America!!!

Here is the youtube version of Hero's Hearts.

V1
Flying to save fellow Warriors as the enemy lay waiting,
High in the far off Afghan mountains half a world away
Our brave Warrior's helicopter was tragically shot down,
We lost 30 of America's finest heroes that sad day
Chorus:
Hero's hearts our brave Warriors through and through,
Lying down their lives for freedoms shared by me and you
Gently kiss your children as you tuck them into bed at night,
And know they're safe as hero's hearts watch over them tonight
V2
Devastating loss of our brave men struck down in their prime,
Deep in our hearts their loving memories still live on
Eternally grateful to God's Warriors never forgotten
Repeat chorus:
Hero's hearts our brave Warriors through and through,
Lying down their lives for freedoms shared by me and you
Gently kiss your children as you tuck them into bed at night,
And know they're safe as hero's hearts watch over them tonight
Bridge:
Hero's hearts our guardian angels Sons, Husbands,
Fathers, Brothers, best friends proud and true
Hero's hearts we will forever remember their great,
Sacrifice defending our freedoms lying down their lives for me and you
Repeat Chorus:
Hero's hearts our brave Warriors through and through,
Lying down their lives for freedoms shared by me and you
Gently kiss your children as you tuck them into bed at night,
And know they're safe as hero's hearts watch over them tonight
Tag:
Hero's hearts defending our peace
Hero's hearts bravely beating strong
Hero's hearts we are truly blessed
Hero's hearts singing freedom's song
Hero's hearts Hero's hearts Hero's hearts Hero's hearts

Jon and Our other "Brave Warriors" will never be forgotten!

There is no genuine comfort in such a loss. I lost my best friend in Iraq in 1991. Like my friend, Mr. Tumilson was doing what he trained long and hard for. He will be missed by even those of us who did not know him. We all lost a friend! Knowing Jon is no longer here to make the world, wherever he was - a better place, I salute a hero. The only comfort I take he is still with many of his friends, like my friend. Jim L. (Midland, TX.)

Prayer Shawls 4 Fallen Soldiers ([email protected]) is an organization with groups throughout the country who strive to send handmade prayer shawls and/ or lap robes to families who have lost a loved one in service to our country. Members of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA would like to honor your son’s sacrifice and memory by sending our prayers and comfort through a shawl which we will mail to you. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] with the names and addresses and what they would like to receive. We will send them as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any other families who are grieving the loss of a loved one who died serving our country, please pass along my e-mail address, as our organization can no longer get family contacts through the military. May God bless you and comfort you in the days ahead. Sincerely, Lynne

I had the great privilege of serving aboard the USS Port Royal with Jon. After not seeing JT in almost 13 years since I left the ship when I heard about his there was not a question in my mind I would be there for the services. I feel honored and privileged to not only serve with Jon but also to say goodbye to a shipmate and friend. There was over 10 of us from the Port Royal, that is a testament to what kind of Son you have raised that people who served with him over a decade ago would travel to see him. JT is a hero, always has been and always will be.
