Patricia A. Varga

Patricia Ann Varga, 76, died peacefully Feb. 14, 2014, at Mountain View Genesis Center in Rutland.

She was born in Proctor, March 11, 1937, daughter of Robert J. and Sophie V. (Ostrowski) Hier.

Patricia was a 1955 graduate of Proctor High School and also attended Rutland Business College.

She married Alexander Varga on Aug. 6, 1955. He died in 1986.

Patricia was employed at Countryside Glass Corp. as an administrative secretary where she worked for 25 years. She retired in 2002.

She also worked at The Rutland Herald as a proofreader and at CVPS.

Mrs. Varga was member since 2008 of the Federated Church of Castleton, where she was also a deacon of the church. She was also a member of Eastern Star #70, AARP, VFW Post 648. She was a past member of Brandon American Legion and Women of the Moose.

Mrs. Varga was an avid bowler. She belonged to the Women's Bowling Congress of America, participating in many tournaments in Vt. and N.H.

Mrs. Varga was an avid flower gardener. She also enjoyed studying the use of natural herbs.

Surviving are three daughters, Tina Varga Fodor and her husband, Stephen, of Rutland, Vicki Varga Sirak of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Ruth Ann Fletcher and her husband, John, of Newport; her longtime companion, Winfred "Skeet" Pike of Castleton; two sisters, Christine Hier Fredette of Pittsford and Mary Hier Gecha of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; several nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. in the Clifford Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Steven E. Berry of Federated Church of Castleton. The Eastern Star will also offer a prayer service.

Burial will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Proctor.

Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m.
