Rod was an excellent teacher and mentor. I was his only Ph.D. student while he was a NIU and his support and guidance was invaluable. We stayed in touch across the years via mail and the internet. I was so sorry to learn that he had passed.

He will be missed very much in the Friday Painters Group, and personally, as a special friend for 22 years of painting together. He was a very gentle, humble and kind person.
