He graduated from Barry Goldwater High School in 2012. He shipped off to boot camp for the United States Marine Corps on September 04, 2012. He completed his training at MCRD San Diego, California and earned his Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on November 30, 2012. He completed Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton January 2013 and then reported to the Defense Information School at Ft. George G. Meade on February 27, 2013 for Video Production and Documentation training. Lance Corporal Hug joined Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa, Japan in July of 2013 and was subsequently transferred to Combat Camera, Marine Corps Installations Pacific (MCIPAC) for duty as a Combat Videographer. Lance Corporal Hug's personal awards include: the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment ribbon. Jacob loved his family dearly. He never went more than 2 days without sending a message or to just say I love you. He was the big brother that helped with the little ones and they adored him. He was the son most people would love to have. He was due to be stationed at Miramar in California July 2015. He was looking forward to being back stateside and starting college classes as he finished the last 2.5 years of his service with the Marine Corps. He is survived by his mother Andrea Hug (Hinkle), his father Jim Hug, and five siblings, Courtney, Zach, Nathan, Carter and Sydney. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Christ's Church of the Valley, 19030 N. Pima Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. To the family of Jacob. I met your other son the other day recognizing that he was wearing a memorial bracelet. We talked about his and mine. I am a Marine mom and have been very involved in the military support field in Az. I told your son that I designed the Az Gold Star license plate and he said you may want to speak with me. Losing our children is the hardest walk ever but know that you are not in this Gold Star club alone. Please feel free to reach out to talk, cry, share, laugh or just be. I am so sorry you lost your son. My grief blanket is large enough to wrap around you too. Blesssing sent. My email is [email protected]

Dear Hug family,

Your son and your brother gave ultimate sacrifice for my (Nepali) people in our hour of great despair. A soldier who stood in solidarity with human beings in their hour of need. He exemplified the best of humanity, a true soldier indeed. Thank you very much for sharing your son and your brother with us. We will always remember his life and sacrifice.

To the Hug Family: bless you for having such a wonderful son. May you feel the hands of God comforting you at this time, and may you know there is a country grateful for his service (probably two as the Nepalese were benefitting from his service also). I have read your stories in the newspaper; thank you for sharing. May you stay strong. Peace be with you all.
