I was fortunate enough to be hired to teach Mr. Kelly how to swim 10 years ago. He had never learned but wanted to complete a triathlon alongside his son CJ. His hard work and dedication was inspiring. He talked to me about the law and how much he still enjoyed his profession every day. He encouraged me to think about law school and wrote me a recommendation letter when I applied. He was genuinely interested in my success and continued to serve as a mentor to me in my practice. There are few people who are kind, supportive, positive, and dependable enough to have an impact on another adult’s life like he had on mine. He was truly a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with Carol, CJ, and all of his family and friends.

We are so sad to hear if Jim’s passing. We have fond memories of our children’s friendship during Lovett School years. We have enjoyed following Mary Louise’s career and reading her books. Jim had a very full and rewarding life and I am sure your memories of you life together will bring comfort. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jim was one of my early mentors at Smith, Gambrell. I recall assisting with a few CON Applications ... and Jim's perpetual patience with my questions. May Jim's memory forever be a blessing to friends and family alike.

Carol, I wish you and your family peace and healing at this difficult time. I so much enjoyed getting to know you and Jim while he and I worked on many projects for PCDI and Ashworth College over a 20-year period. He was a careful, wise and kind counsel whose clients viewed as a friend.

I always admired Jim for his brilliant mind, but I liked him as a friend for his kindness, always interested in how you were doing. He was one of the nicest guys I knew. A true JHS 64 star.

I am saddened to learn of Jim's passing. We worked together in a military intelligence unit, located in Augsburg, Germany, during the early 1970s. Jim made a significant contribution to the national security effort in support of European Command and US Army Europe during the Cold War.
We only recently connected and Jim helped to plan a reunion, scheduled for September last year in his home state of Idaho. Unfortunately, the pandemic put those plans on hold.
I've attached a photo, taken in Augsburg, during a happier time. I'll let readers identify Jim and Carol.
My sincere condolences to Carol and the Kelly clan.

I’ll always remember Jim carrying 110 lb dumbbells in each hand as he walked the cart paths at Capital City at 6:00 am. What an inspiration!
