RICHARD BURG Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 23, 2013.
Richard F. Burg of Elk Grove Village Richard Burg, born November 13, 1931, age 81, devoted, loyal, and loving husband of Liz for 37 years went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 21, 2013. He was the wonderful, devoted father of Kathy Hunter, Christine (Greg) Rogers, Ray (Penny) Burg, Carole Neace, Ken (Jeanne) Burg, Doug (Sue) Burg, Chuck (Reba) Hervas, Roy (Lynda) Hervas, and George (Susan) Hervas. He was also a loving grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. As a young man, Richard was apprenticed as a bricklayer, and throughout his life he used that skill to help many. He volunteered for the Army and was in the 82nd Airborne Special Forces for three years as a parachute packer. He made 30 jumps and was very proud to serve his country. He was a real Patriot! He was known by many as "Engineer Burg" because he served in the Des Plaines Fire Department for 20 years. He chose to be a fireman because he loved to help people. At the same time, Richard worked a second job delivering paper goods in the Chicago area. Throughout his life and in his retirement, he gave of himself to help his church and others in any way he could. He was a long time member of Brentwood Baptist Church in Des Plaines. He also enjoyed travelling at home and abroad with his wife Liz and devoting more time to his kids and grandkids whom he loved so much. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Edith Burg, sister Doris (Bill) Mariacher, and brother Robert Burg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Richard's name to Camp Joy (www.campjoy.org/) or Brentwood Baptist Church in Des Plaines. Visitation will be at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Road (at Northwest Highway), Mount Prospect on Tuesday, April 23 from 5-8 pm. Funeral service will be conducted at Friedrichs on Wednesday, April 24 at 10 am. I first knew "Mr. Berg" over 40 years ago when I was 8 years old. I will always remember him as "kind." Never an unkind word. Never an unkind act. When I grew up and got married, Mr. Berg and Liz were bowling partners with Michelle and me. I remember him playing horse shoes or "washers" with my dad at church picnics! He was a Godly man who was kind to all.

My wonderful dad. I will miss you so. What a comfort to know you are in heaven with your Lord walking...walking...and walking some more. No more suffering. I love you so much.
