Edward Gonczarow Obituary

Edward A. Gonczarow of Hartford and North Eastham, MA, passed away on Saturday (September 15, 2001) after a lengthy illness. He was born on February 3, 1927 in Gorlica, Poland, the son of the late Theodore and Petronella (Szczepanik) Gonczarow. Mr. Gonczarow came to the United States in 1950, after surviving 5 years as a prisoner of war in German Concentration Camps. He also served as an aid to the American Army after World War II and was a guard at the Nuremberg Trials. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 46 years at United Tool and Die, Co., West Hartford. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elfriede (Florczyk) Gonczarow of Hartford; and his three children, Helena Cutler and her husband, Caleb of New Hartford; and their two sons, Caleb Cutler of Boston, MA and Brenden Cutler of New Hartford, Edward Gonczarow and his wife, Loida of Homestead, FL; and their five children, Shari, Christian, Eddie, Knight and Anastasia; and Anthony Gonczarow and his wife, Marabeth of Crawfordsville, IN; and their two sons, John and Andrew; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews in Poland. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a hard worker and a survivor who persevered though many hardships. Funeral procession will be Tuesday, Sept. 18, 9:15 a.m., from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Monday, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made in his memory to the Hartford Hospital Dialysis Unit, 80 Seymour St., Hartford, CT 06106.
