Maud Utz age 84, of Sarasota passed on December 13, 2014. She is survived by three siblings Frank Scott, Charles Scott, Jane Kidney six children: Wendy (John), Merrily (David), David, Phil (Mary), Dawn (Warren) & Scotty (Elizabeth); 16 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Her husband of 32 years, Thornton Utz, died in 1999. Born in NYC, she moved to Sarasota in 1956. She is adored by her extensive family and has left behind many dear friends whom she considered family.
Her desire to help others led her to a career in nursing. While raising her son Phil and living in Anna Maria, she married Thornton Utz and added two children to their combined families. She was instrumental in running a successful art business with Thornton. Together they helped many people and various service organizations as they traveled the globe.
She loved being surrounded by her family, telling stories and listening to friends reminisce in her last few months. She asked God in a prayer, 'If I'm dying, how come I'm having so much fun?'
Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Incarnation, 2901 Bee Ridge Rd., Sarasota, FL 34239 on Saturday Dec. 20th at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Gator Wilderness Camp School, 44930 Farabee Rd., Punta Gorda, Florida 33982 (941) 639-7722.
