Mark Carr Obituary

Mark Thomas Carr

Louisville - Mark Thomas Carr, 93 of Louisville passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, July 21, 2018.

He is preceded by his loving wife of 66 years, Doris Marie (Rohe); his parents Amelia (Fleck) & Mark Carr.

Survivors include his daughter, Cathy L. Metts (John), two grandchildren, Jena Monsma (Ben) & John A. Mark Metts.

Mark was an U.S. Navy veteran of WWII where he served proudly on the USS Hancock from 1944 - 1946. He was recalled during the Korean War.

Mark then began his career as "The Telephone Man" at Fort Knox Civil Service. During his tenure as Chief, U. S. Army Communications Command he was an instrumental force behind the many and varied accomplishments which had been deemed either impractical or demanding. Firm and tough minded in his leadership, he demanded and received optimum technical and soldiering performance from 10 military and 34 civilian personnel of his division. His job performance was characterized by exceptional accuracy, thoroughness and astute judgement which earned him the Commander's Award for Civilian Service at his retirement in 1982.

Mark loved his times at his camp on Rough River with friends & family. "Captain Mark" enjoyed boating and going skiing. He was a member of the Twin Spires and loved horse racing. Mark was a lifelong U K fan and most of all the best daddy in the whole wide world.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at St Paul Catholic Church 6901 Dixie Hwy. with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy. with a prayer service at 3:00 P.M. (Chaplet of Divine Mercy).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Stroke Association.

Cathy,
I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember being the only kid in the neighborhood that ever got to swim in your mom and dad's pool and how they always "stole" my cats because my mom wouldn't let them stay in the house. I know your dad is happy now because he is with your mom and my dad and they are up there smiling down on us while having a couple drinks. Love you, Amy Hartell

My wife and I loved Mark and Doris. We would go over to their house and swim and drink a few beers. O ne year we all went to Cancun and had a really great time. We sure do miss them....Lenny and Denise Hughes.
