JENNINGS-Peter. The Board of Directors and officers of Goddard Riverside Community Center are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Peter Jennings. Peter was an avid supporter of the Annual Goddard Riverside New York Book Fair which helped raise funds for our work. While his reach was global, he never lost sight of local needs and concerns. He understood and believed firmly in the idea of community and was a strong advocate for our our less fortunate neighbors. We will greatly miss him. Stanley Heckman President, Board of Directors Stephan Russo, Exec. Dir.

WOW!! Just found this...accidental tourist. Was just talking with a friend regarding the best reporters ever. Top of the list..Peter Jennings. Walter is another one....different generation. This convo reminded me I had written a bit of a blurb on a tech help site I belonged to at the time...and another was still there. Here it is...still miss his honesty...My heartfelt sympathies to all!!

Soar On High Mr. Jennings

Fly free on your wings made of words..
They glide on the wind of your soul...
In them you give us a window...
A window into enlightenment.

Breathe deeply with your spirit as you soar...
The eternal muse soars with you...
Surely the angels must also...
For this song you have brought us...
will be sung...and shall be heard forevermore...

For Peter...

A man you could trust
with the news.

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I do to this day miss Peter each time I hear of an important news event. I can't help but wonder with all that is happening in the ME that there is part of the story we will never hear because Peter is not here to tell us. He so loved Beirut, a city he lived in for many years. Perhaps it is a blessing that he is not here to see what is happening to his beloved city. Best to his family and friends on this one year anniversary of his death. We all miss him dearly. I hope he knows that.

I miss listening to Peter's voice on ABC World News Tonight. The news just isn't the same without him. The only thing I find comforting about the situation is that Peter is no longer suffering and he's in Heaven experiencing everlasting joy.

During an interview with Christianity Today magazine in June, 2000, Peter Jennings was asked if Jesus would have been willing to grant interviews to journalists. Peter replied, "Oh, there's no doubt in my mind that He would have." During the night of August 7, 2005, Peter Jennings left this world and got that interview with Jesus.

Serve God well up there in Heaven, Peter. I hope to meet you there someday.
