I have always said, that baseball is the rhythm of life. So much so, that I googled it to see if anyone else said this. I found the story of Ruth from the New York Times. What a wonderful lady she must have been.

My heart clinched when I heard Ruth was gone. Her sharp intellect and razor-sharp wit were a wonder to behold. I learn something from her whenever we spoke, either from that eclectic fount of knowledge she possessed or from the amazing examples she gave through her behavior. She was a joy to work with.
My sincerest condolences to all her family.

It warmed my heart to read about Ruth's life. She was truly a woman of life, passion and perseverance. She left a strong legacy for all Smith alumnae to aspire to. I miss her today and will continue to miss her but I am very grateful to have been in her presence. I extend my love and comfort to her friends and family.

Ruth was so interested in the lives of all her friends. She was one of a kind, and an inspiration with her zest for life. She is missed by so many.

How very much I learned from Ruth -- most importantly in these last months: to stay in the world, seeing friends and enjoying lectures and parties -- may all of us who knew her love for Smith and The Cos Club be her spirit in those places. Her friendship was a gift in every way.

I am thinking of Ruth -- smart, feisty, funny, a Smithie to the core, a doer-- and someone who could talk you into doing most anything, giving a speech, taking a job. She led by example -- a rare human being whom I will sorely miss.
