John Nidds Obituary

NIDDS - John A., died peacefully surrounded by his family. Born 12-1-1931 in Flushing, NY with Bob and Ray, and sister, Madeline. Attended Fordham Prep, Fordham University (BA), Queen's College (MA) and St. John's University (Doctorate) and served as an officer in US Marine Corps. Dr. Nidds took great pride in his career as an educator, which began as a teacher at Walt Whitman High School, South Huntington, and as a Principal of Stimson Junior High for the next 25 years. He continued his career as a tenured Professor at Dowling College for the next 25 years, where he loved sharing his experiences as an educator with future teachers. Jack married his beloved wife of 62 years, Ellen Fenlon Nidds in Huntington, NY, where they raised 4 children, Kerriann Reilly (Thomas), Sally Morris (Paul), Maggie Holland (Jim) and John Nidds (Amy), 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Faith played an important role in Jack's life, as member of St. Patrick's Church. He loved his life in Huntington and the lifelong friendships he and Ellie enjoyed. Visitation Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Mass Friday 10:45 AM at St. Patrick's Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcome at New Hour for Women and Children-LI. www.newhourli.org maconnellfuneralhome.com

Walt Withman High School 1961 Yearbook

October 15, 2019

Just reading my 1961 Walt Whitman High yearbook. It was dedicated to "Mr." Nidds - and reads in part: "We admire his young and friendly spirit, his genial good humor, his kindness, and his enthusiasm." He apparently carried those traits with him throughout his life. Condolences and God Bless.

A former student.

I knew Dr. Nidds from my time as a student as Stimson Junior High and then had the wonderful surprise of walking in to see him as a dean at the College of Mount Saint Vincent my junior year! Always with that wonderful smile and genuine caring way. I thought the world of him as did the rest of my family. He will be missed.

Was great seeing Uncle Jack in New York City just a few months ago, we talked about the New York Giants and agreed Eli Manning may be over the hump. Thinking of the Nidds family.
