Petra Karr Obituary
Born in Everett, Washington on April 1, 1960, passed away at the age of 60 on April 7, 2020 after a determined battle against cancer and Covid-19.
As executive director of Tacoma-based Act 1 Theatre, Petra dedicated herself to regional theatre for more than 40 years as an actor, writer, and director. She welcomed hundreds of local young people and adults to the rich experience of performing in Act 1 Productions.
She is survived by her husband and business partner, Christopher Karr; her parents Jille and Cliff Rowe; sister-in-law Kimberley and her sons Ethan and Sean; her brother Stuart and wife Dawn Rowe and their son Dustin; daughter Caitlin Karr; sons Carson and Nicholas Lehman, and infant granddaughter, Loewen Lehman.
A celebration of Petra's life and contributions will be announced as soon as it is considered safe to gather.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to your local theatre in Petra's remembrance.

I just heard the news about Petra and am so shocked and saddened. Petra is the person who needed to live forever. Her spark was such a gift to our world. She was one of my idols. Her whole family. She is definitely an angel organizing shows in heaven and bringing joy to whomever she meets. My deepest condolences to all her loved ones. I know there is a giant hole in your lives. I went home from grade school one day and said , "Mom, there's a girl in my class named Petra, Isn't that a place that you said I should visit?"
This gal was an eccentric to me, her dad was a newspaper reporter, my parents read the paper, she was named after an ancient, historical and archaeological city, I thought that was so posh!
Thinking back, I remember what a bright spot in my young life Petra was!!!
I will always be grateful for the kindness she showed me.

I considered Petra my lifelong best friend.
She did so much to draw this anxious extrovert out of my comfort zone and expand my horizons. She's been doing that, in MY life, since we were in 7th grade Spanish class together, then choir and drama and even ensembles! I loved her for that!
She was a very bright star and it was impossible not to be attracted toward that light.
She was also human, with human foibles, but love her or hate her she was always true to herself and her passion for people - and she did GREAT things!
l miss you so much, Dear Friend, and I will continue to until we meet again. And when we do, we're going to put on the best productions of our lives...and hug - a long, I never want to let you go again kinda hug!! Until then, I know you'll be busy deciding what to produce and getting all the props and everything else ready! Let's make it the most incredible musical you've ever produced because we won't have to worry about all those costs!!!
I love you Petra, and I miss you, but I WILL see you again, and for that I'm so grateful!

I don't even know where to begin or what to say...
Nothing, and no one can ease your pain apart from God, and time. I wish I could because maybe then I could ease my own, too!
You are ALL in my thoughts and prayers and I send virtual hugs to you all. I'm looking forward to the time when will all be able to get together and remember all the incredible (and silly!) things Petra did!

The world has lost a talented and beautiful woman. I had the pleasure of working with Petra and Chris at Creator Lutheran church. Petra started doing plays that drew young and old. So much fun and so many sweet memories. Rest In Peace, sweet friend. ♥

I have known Petra for 25 years. Petra was a force of nature. She could make a suggestion and before you knew it, it had become fact. Petra had so many ideas, some great, some not so great. I will miss her greatly.

I feel blessed to have met Petra through Cliff, my favorite professor at PLU, and I immediately hit it off with her. In the years following my graduation, I choreographed several musicals for her in the Sumner area. She had a sparkle inside of her that was contagious and she radiated love and joy to everyone around her. Chris, Cliff, Jille, Stuart, Nick, Carson, & Caitlin, Im sorry for your loss and Im praying for your family.

I knew Petra because her son Nick married my daughter Ashley, hes a wonderful son in law by the way. When we would all get together it was always fun. She was so welcoming, full of spirit and thered always be so much laughter. I enjoyed watching Nick and his siblings interact with their mom, you could see and feel the love they had for each other. Im so very sad that I couldnt have spent more time with her. Many prayers are going out to the family.
