Anthony Cimino Obituary

Anthony J. "Tony" Cimino

Millville - Anthony J. "Tony" Cimino, 97 of Millville died after an extended illness at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home of Vineland. Born in Venica, Italy, Tony came to America when he was just 4 months old.

Tony grew up and went to school in Millville, and in 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during World War II, and was a gunnersmate from 1942 until 1945. Upon his return, he worked as a Carpenter in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union out of Camden, NJ where he was a life member.

Tony was active in the Catholic Church, as he served as an Alter Boy when he was just a child, and continued to serve as an Alter Attendant into his 90's. He volunteered at the church, performing many various duties; and at one time fixed all the pews in the church.

Tony was inducted into the Millville Sports Hall of Fame in 2015, when he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. He participated in the leadership of the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Sea Scouts during the 1950's and 1960's. He also coached in the American Farm and Little Leagues during that same period. He also had served as a member of the Maurice River Board of Education. Tony was a founding father of the Millville Thunderbolt Club in the mid-1950's and later served as President, Vice-President and Recording Secretary. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Thunderbolt Club for over 60years. During the 2000;s Tony became a Lifetime Member of the Thunderbolt Club and has the dining room of the club named after him. If not for Tony Cimino, the Thunderbolt club, as we know it today, would not exist. He was an avid sports fan, and he followed the Thunderbolts in every sport. He also was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. Tony will be remembered for his devotion to his Lord, family and community.

Tony is survived by: sons, Joseph Cimino (Donna), James Cimino (Liz), Gary Cimino (Karen Wettstein); grandchildren, Katie, Kurt, Daniel, Matthew, Jessica, Michael and Fallon; 6 great grandchildren; Tony was pre-deceased by his lovely wife, Annie; a sister, Helen Parent; a brother, Pasquale "Patrick".

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11am in the Parish of All Saints Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
