Dorthea Sjursen Obituary
She was the youngest child born to Morton and Marie Magnus on Aug. 23, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was the beloved wife of Arnold Sjursen, who preceded her in death in 1980.
Dotty was the loving mother to son, Arnold Sjursen of Old Lyme; daughter, Jane Sjursen Bruen of San Diego, Calif., and their respective spouses, Ruth Schoppe Sjursen and David Bruen; cherished grandmother of Jennifer Sjursen, Katrin Sjursen, Sara Sjursen Smith, Sanna Singer, Noah Singer, Kristin Bruen Merz, and Karie Bruen Evans. In addition, she is survived by great-grandchildren, Kailer, Cooper, Dorthea, Sanna, Matilda, J.D., Rylie, and Abigail.
Dotty was the consummate homemaker; cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, gardening, she could do it all. "Grandma" to all, she was the rock of the family and an inspiration to all who knew her. Her devotion to her family was her greatest achievement. We will miss her distinctive giggle, shining blue eyes, and strong hugs. "See you in the a.m."
She was laid to rest beside her husband at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y., following a private service.
