VASSAR

James Michael Jr.

James M. Vassar Jr. passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at his home in Sylvania Township. Jim was born July 18, 1968, in Toledo, OH to Michael and Marcia Vassar. He was a graduate of Fort Collins High School in Fort Collins, CO and received his Bachelors of Human Resource Management Degree from the Ohio State University. Jim began his career in the worker's compensation industry in 1993 as a marketing rep at OCS Management and eventually became vice president of claims services. He started V&A Risk Services in 2003 where he served as president. Jim was a member of Downtown Toledo Rotary, was past-president of the Toledo Area Human Resource Association, and received the 20 under 40 Award in 2005. He was an avid golfer and a huge fan of OSU Buckeyes and the Detroit Red Wings. Jim's greatest love was his family. He was very active in the lives of his children and was a huge supporter of their athletics. He was very charismatic and outgoing. To Jim there were no strangers, only potential friends.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Leslie; sons, Jacob and Sammy; sisters, Amy (Ray) Heitland, Michele (Greg) Robinson, Heather (Pat) Campbell, Bridget Westley, Jenny (Ed Carbary) Westley, and Jennifer Mabry; brothers, Zak (Emilie) Vassar, Mike (Linda) Mabry, Chris (Michelle) Westley, and Josh (Cheryl) Westley; parents, Marcia (Chuck) Mabry and Michael (Kathleen) Vassar; in-laws, Jim and Elaine Judy; Jennifer (Philip) Adornetto and Jeff (Nikea) Judy, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Betty Spreng, and John and Clara Vassar.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 14, 2013, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. I am so sorry, I didn't really know James but I know Sammy. My heart goes out to his family. Life is short and you have to live it to the fullest, and I am sure that is what he did. Stay strong! Stand tall! and remember you are never alone.
