To me, he was Uncle Bob, AKA the coolest man in the world. Our family moved to California where I was born in 63 so we didn't get to see him very often. When he joined with Wayne Cochran and the CC Riders, he would send us albums. I listened to them over and over. I was very drawn to Wayne's pain and am not sure how an 8 or 10 year old could relate to songs like 'If I were a Carpenter" but I felt it. When they came to LA we would go see them on the Dina Shore Show and the Michael Douglas Show. One 4th of July the family drove up somewhere far away and we couldn't go to the show but pulled up beside the Tour Bus and he kinda laid propped up by his elbow and was talking to my Dad about when they were going on because my Mom and Dad were going to go see the show. We went to a friend of my Dads for Fire Works and dinner and went to bed. In the middle of the night they came and picked us up. Uncle Bob and his girlfriend rode with us home and I slept on his girlfriends lap. It's a memory I'll never forget. He had such a presence. I will always honor his memory.

Bob was an inspiration in many ways to more people than he knew. More than one of us saw him as a teacher, a mentor, a cheerleader, and a friend. Most of all, he was real.
I was able to reconnect with him--at least by phone--over the last year and sent him DVDs of my kids' school band concerts, which he said he enjoyed.
I will miss him.

Bob was pretty cool to many of us kids at CCHS marching band from 1966- 1969. He was a talented saxaphonist and a pretty decent tennis player (back then). Some forget he was varsity tennis coach at CCHS.
"If you believe in forever...That life is just a one-night stand... If there's a rock 'n roll heaven, well you know they've got a helluva band". Get your axe back out Bob.

Bob was a force on any bandstand. I was there when he left the Riders and told us he would show up un-announced, and we had better be on our game. He meant it, and we were all better for it.
My condolences to the family and Bob's many friends.

When Bob joined CC Riders, he became the shining example of what it meant to always play with intensity and swing hard. A great Player and friend with huge heart.

Bob and I roomed together when I first joined the CC Riders between '71 and '72. I was young and inexperienced. He opened my eyes to many things regarding both music and life. He helped me to persevere and so that's what I did. these few words can hardly make a dent in what I owe to Bob Gable.

Uncle Bob was my hero growing up. One of my best memories was seeing him with Wayne Cochran and the C.C. Riders in Fort Wayne Indiana when I was 11. I grew up listening to their records and will continue to do so. I wish I could have talked to him one more time...

Bob lived next door to me on St Bernard in the Colony, when I was a wee one. I would hear him playing his sax all the time and it was him that introduced me to rock'n'roll - for better or worse. Imagine my surprise when I moved back to Toledo to re-hook up with The Homewreckers, and Bob was holdin' down the sax chair. No apartment door on Put-In-Bay was safe from Bob.

Bob took me under his wing in high school and then at BGSU and introduced me to the great jazz players. He was a great tenor man who also mastered bassoon. He had a passion for music seldom seen.
