Arthur Rahm

Turton - Arthur Rahm, 87, of Turton, S.D. died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Beverly Healthcare Center in Groton, S.D. His funeral will be Monday, April 14, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Turton, S.D. Fr. Dan Wolfgram will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Turton, S.D. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home and there will be a rosary Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the Church. Art, the oldest of six children, was born February 11, 1916 in Turton, S.D. to George and Amelia (LaBrie) Rahm. He graduated from Turton High School in 1933 and attended Aberdeen Business College before returning to the farm. On February 11, 1942 Art married Leola Bollerslev in Turton, S.D. He enjoyed farming his entire life. His hobbies included spending time with family, hunting and having coffee with friends. He was a member of the Spink County Crop Improvement Association, the Turton Township Board, Secretary of Eastern Spink County Lions Club, Secretary of the Farmers Elevator of Turton, Fire Chief of Turton City Rural Fire Department, served as President of Spink County Extension Board and was a local 4-H leader. He received the Friend of Extension Award from Epsilon Sigma Phi and the Honorary Chapter Farm Award from the Doland FFA. In 1997 Art was named Eminent Farmer by the College of Agriculture and Biological Science at SDSU, Brookings. He also was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Art is survived by his wife Leola of Turton, S.D.; three daughters: Kathy (Harlan) Scheibe of Fargo, N.D., Artyce Flynn of San Antonio, Texas and Lynette Thompson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son Greg (Cyd) Rahm of Turton, S.D.; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Casketbearers will be Dwight Lyren, George Rahm, Dean Huffman, Jeff Albrecht, Larry Rahm, Allen Hausvik, Bill Troske and Gary Felderman. Honorary Casketbearers will be Art's grandchildren. The family requests memorials be directed to: St. Joseph's Cemetery Fund or SD Diabetes Association.
