John Michael Leidenix was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Huff, N.D., to Frank and Elizabeth (Howarth) Leidenix. He was raised and grew up on the family farm and ranch in Huff where he also attended rural school. He went to work on a ranch for Joe Wetzstein in the Fort Rice area. John then went to work for Butch and Thelma Luger on their ranch in the Ft. Yates area for the next 12 years.
John met Gladys Hines in Fort Yates, N.D. They were married on July 23, 1960, in Fort Yates. Following their marriage they made their home in Fort Yates where they ran the local hotel and John continued to work for the Luger Ranch. John and Gladys purchased a ranch south of McLaughlin in 1963.
In 1969 they sold the ranch and then John did gravel mining for a couple of years. His heart was still in ranching so John and Gladys purchased a ranch northwest of McLaughlin where John had been ranching until his unexpected death on Saturday.
John was a big part in the formation of the Rigaflex Company. This company developed, produced and patented a plastic composite reel bat for swathers and combines which his son, Monte, invented.
John had a special fondness for animals. Ranching and his grandchildren were his life.
John was meticulous when it came to caring for his cattle. Every year he worked hard at having a 100 percent calf crop which he had done many times including at the age of 82 in 2007.
John is survived by his three children: Monte (Sarah) Leidenix, Michelle (Corey) Botner, and Kristie (Scott) Becker, all of Bismarck, N.D.; seven grandchildren: Michael and Lauren Leidenix, Casey, Dillon and Logan Botner, Erin and Natalie Becker, all of Bismarck.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Gladys, who passed away March 20, 1996; his parents; one grandson, Matthew; four siblings, Irene, Mary, Frank and Elsie.

We are deeply sad to hear of John's untimely death.
He was a dear friend of our family. Especially to my brother Leonard Carrier. He spent many days on our farm at Huff. I was just a little girl when he and Leonard ran around together. But I remember he had a great sense of humor. He was always teasing me about something.
Our Deepest Sympathy to all his family, He will be missed by many.
