Miriam Phyllis Walth was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Hosmer, S.D., to George and Margaret (Guthmiller) Walth. She grew up and attended the Happy Hilltop Rural School in the Hosmer area.
She married Edward H. Lauer on April 4, 1944, in Enterprise, Ala. They made their home at Camp Rucker, Ala., and later Fort Bragg, N.C., until Mr. Lauer was honorably discharged from the service. They returned to the Hosmer area. The family lived in Claremont and, in 1951, moved back to Aberdeen.
As a young adult, Miriam was employed as a nanny and housekeeper in the Hosmer and Aberdeen area. Miriam's places of employment in Aberdeen included Martin's Ready To Wear, Olwen Angell, Pred's, McDonald's, Control Data, RBE, and Kessler's.
Miriam loved working with the children in the Faith United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school at the kindergarten and preschool levels for 20 years, and served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts. Miriam was a seamstress and made the children's choir robes for the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed being the deli lady at Kessler's in the last years of her employment.
Miriam is survived by her daughter, June (Ron) Bryan of Storm Lake, Iowa; sons: Marvin (Sandra) Lauer, Redwood Falls, Minn., and Monroe (Margo) Lauer of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers: Paul (Patti) Walth, Aberdeen, and Delbert (Barbara) Walth, Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters: Adeline (Milbert) Mohr, Aberdeen, and Leona (Edwin) Miller, Bartlett, Tenn.; sisters-in-law: Esther Walth, New Ulm, Minn., and Betty Walth, Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; and three brothers: Robert Walth, Calvin Walth, and Otto Walth.
The family prefers memorials be given to Faith United Methodist Church, Aberdeen.
