Max and I met at the University of Iowa in 1952. We were instant friends. I met her through my roommate—- who worked with her at the university library. She said ‘You have to meet this crazy girl I work with, When our boss was away she got up one the table and danced ! That was my introduction to this wonderful friend. We kept touch through the years visiting from Texas to NewMexico. In our later years we traveled two times to Europe , me laughing all the way. Losing Julie was unthinkable and she and Heather grieved together. My grief is great but thank God I knew her. To Heather my tears flow for for both of us .and I will continue our shared memories of this wonderful woman. I was blessed to have her in my life

Dear Heather, Tim, Hannah, Dane, John, Ella and Max,
We loved Maxine so much! We know her passing leaves a giant void in all the lives she touched. She was one of a kind! Her bright spirit lives on in our memories of her. Sending you all so much love.

Max was such a bright light. She always made my family laugh and smile. She leaves a huge void in our community and I can’t imagine ever watching a soccer game without her cheering next to me. She will be very missed. Love, Carrie, Brian, Grace and Capp Terrell

I had the awesome pleasure of getting to know Max and work with her on the Community Policing Council. She became the chairperson, when she was the last to arrive at an organizational meeting, and someone teasingly said "OK, you're last, you get to be the chairperson" and she shrugged and said "OK" I was the recorder for the group and adored her. We worked closely together and even went out for a drink now and then. When my time was up, I swore we'd stay in touch but somehow life steps in. I was devastated to see her obituary. Thank you for posting that gorgeous picture of her with the easy smile I so remember. She was an amazing human being and I'll always remember her. I am so sorry for the loss of that sweet, smart, loving wonderful human being. Her smile lit up the City and warmed hearts. She will be sorely missed.

Heather, Tim, Hannah and Dane, Rick and I always enjoyed talking with Maxine. She lit up the room or an outdoor space when she entered, always with a smile and her eyes exuded kindness. We weren't around her much but when we saw her I personally felt that I've know her for many years. Such a sweet lady with such an elegance about her. After reading her obituary I was so impressed with all she did in her life, but it didn't surprise me. Rick and I wish you peace as you mourn for your precious mom, mother-in-law and grandma. Hugs and love to each of you and may the light of Christmas bring you comfort.
