Judy Landon Obituary

Landon, Judy Ann

1/2/49 - 7/12/15

Judy was born in Magnolia, Michigan and was adopted by her parents Donald and Hope Bates. Judy grew up in Mason Michigan on the family farm with her older brother Charles. From an early age Judy developed a love of animals and spent a lot of time with her horses, helping with the animals on the farm and was involved with the local 4H club. Judy graduated Mason high school in 1966 and went to Ferris state college. After college Judy volunteered with VISTA to help the needy and spent most of that time the southern US. After VISTA Judy came back home where she taught special education and met love of her life John, they were married in 1971 and had 2 sons. John and Judy moved to New Mexico in 1981 where John found work as a carpenter and Judy worked various jobs including working for Intel for 10 years. John and Judy were married for 26 years before John was taken in motorcycle accident, an event which left a huge hole in Judy's heart until the day she died. After John's accident Judy became an advocate against driving while drowsy and worked on getting the laws changed in New Mexico.

Judy was always easy to spot while driving around town by the American flags she proudly flew on both sides of her vehicle. Judy was an accomplished seamstress and excelled at all types of crafts: sewing, knitting, beading, needle point, quilting, cross stitch, ceramics and even made a business out of doll making for many years. Judy also loved gardening and every summer would plant an array of flowers around her yard where she also grew tomato plants because "there is nothing better than home grown tomatoes". Nobody was ever allowed to kill a spider at her house because she loved them but she had no love for the "noisy" crickets and she would hunt them down mercilessly. Sundays were always reserved for spending time with her family and grandchildren which became the light of her life. Tuesdays were reserved for her "lunch lady" group, a group of her dearest friends that would get together and trade stories and pictures and mostly enjoy each others company.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents Don and Hope Bates and her husband John Landon.

Judy is survived by her brother Charles Bates; sons John and Josh Landon, their wives Julia and Priscilla Landon; and her grandchildren Jesse, Nicole, Tyler, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn and Addyson. Judy will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

Judy's family would like to thank her neighbors Fred, Laura, Mark, and Teressa who have become our second family for looking out for her for many years on a daily basis.

I met your mom years ago when I was visiting my uncle Tom and aunt Elaine. Judy beaded me a beautiful purple Indian medicine bag. I wear it often and always think of her and how very talented she was! She was a lovely lady. Prayers for you.
