Loydene Sacrison Obituary

Loydene Emma (McCormick) Sacrison

Loydene Emma (McCormick) Sacrison was born in Presho, South Dakota on August 8, 1927 the second of Wilbur Lloyd and Victorian (Muldoon) McCormick's five children. In 1930 the family moved to Sydney, Iowa before finally settling in Rapid City, SD. Among Loydene's favorite memories and stories were the teen-aged summers she spent working in the general store of her Uncle Roy and Aunt Dorothy Kineen in Kennebec, SD. A job that included cleaning and clerking and in off hours filling the role of "Big Sister" to her cousin Jim. Graduating from Cathedral High in Rapid City during the height of WWII, Loydene entered the Cadet Nurse program. While the programs commissioning facet was curtailed with the end of the war, she continued her education and received her RN from St Joseph's Hospital in Rapid City. Sometime thereafter she met Robert (Bob) Sacrison of Buffalo, SD on a blind date. Bob, a former Marine, was a mining engineering student at the South Dakota School of Mines. Following their courtship, they married at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Rapid City on June 5th, 1950, the ceremony presided over by Loydene's uncle, Father Ralph Muldoon.

Loydene and Bob raised three children in such disparate places as Hot Springs, SD, Kimberly and Las Vegas Nevada, Montpelier, Idaho, Ciudad Piar, Estado Bolivar, Venezuela, Ossining, NY and Belen, Brazil before making their final homes in Taos and Albuquerque, NM. Throughout it all they were stalwarts in the community, ever active in their church, their children's schools and the local political scene. Notably, in Venezuela Loydene brought her nursing skills to the forefront, assisting the local clinic time and again with pediatric care. Loydene and Bob loved to travel and saw much of the world. Bob's job as a senior mining engineer with the Cerro Corporation in NY called for him to make extensive trips to mines all over South America and Greece. Every fourth trip Loydene went along and they would take an extra week or two sightseeing on their way home. Bob's final job took them to Taos where he was as the General Manager of the Molycorp Mine in Questa, NM. Upon retiring they bought a motor home and traveled much of North America and in the winter snow-birded in Bahia Kino, Sonora, Mexico. Enjoying themselves beach combing and fishing the Sea of Cortez. Loydene is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bob, and their children Chuck (Tommie) of Port Orchard, WA, daughter Vicki (Brind) of Teddington, England, and son Ralph of Elko, NV. Additionally she is survived by her sisters Rita of Rapid City and Mary Jane of Gilbert, AZ, cousin Jim of Omaha, NE and grandchildren Kate, Doug, Annie, Claudia, Helena and Robert and great grandson Sebastian. Loydene was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank and sister, Delores. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Andrea Denson and the entire staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living for the kindness and warmth they have showered on Loydene this past year and to RN Heather O'Brien and her associates from Legacy Healthcare for the attention and care they have given in these final months.
