Douglas Lampe Obituary

Former Anchorage resident Capt. Douglas E. Lampe, 48 of Prospect, Ky., died Sept. 3, 2010, in Dubai.

His family wrote that he "passed into life eternal."

A funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday at Southeast Christian Church, with burial at Cave Hill Cemetery afterward.

Douglas, born March 19, 1962, was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio.

He graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He was a pilot for United Parcel Service, a member of the Independent Pilots Association and a member of Southeast Christian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Cindy; their children, Kelly and Andrew; his stepchildren, Lee Childers (Samantha) and Vance Childers; and granddaughter, Alexis. He is also survived by his parents, Wesley and Constance Lampe of Cincinnati, Ohio; and sister, Laura Richter (Philip) of Columbus, Ohio.

The family requests that memorial gifts be made either to the Christian Academy English Station elementary playground project or to the newly established Doug Lampe Tuition Assistance Fund, which will provide tuition assistance to families of current or prospective Christian Academy students in need. Memorial gifts may be mailed to: Development Department, Christian Academy of Louisville, 700 S. English Station Road, Louisville, KY 40245.

My daughter attends CAL so I often crossed paths with Doug as he served in the car line. He always made my day a little brighter with a friendly waive as I drove by. Not enough good folks like Doug in this world - he will be missed.
