Jaime Hidalgo Obituary

Jaime Perez Hidalgo, 58, longtime Alaska resident, died March 24, 2011, in Anchorage.

A gathering of his family and friends will be at 4:30 p.m. April 9 at the home of Isabel Lee, 2741 Seafarer Loop.

It was his wish to be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at a later date.

He was born April 14, 1952, to Henry and Maria Hidalgo in Mexico City. He moved to Anchorage with his parents and sister, Anna Maria, when he was 6 years old.

In 1970, he graduated from Dimond High School. He went on to receive a history degree from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. He then went on to receive a law degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. He worked as an attorney in Anchorage.

Jamie was an avid reader and continued his passion for history and science his entire life. His mother would drop him off on Saturday as soon as the library opened in Anchorage when he was young. He loved children and was a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his mother, Maria Smith; his sister, Ana Maria Hidalgo, her husband Scott Riddick, who all live in California; and his father, Henry Hidalgo, who lives in Puebla, Mexico; his separated wife, Lori Tschinkel of Anchorage; his loving family members and friends in Alaska; and many Outside family members and friends who loved him dearly. His generous nature and incredible sense of humor will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Friends of the Library, Anchorage Public Library.

Arrangements will be made by the Cremation Society of Alaska.

I met Jaime many years ago through his best friend, Robin (I became his wife) and introduced him to Lori. He was a very funny man and kind friend to Robin. May he rest in peace.

I was shocked. I met Jaime many years ago when he was a computer geek, as was I, in the late 70s early 80s, it had to be. Over the years, we've run into each other. How he could laugh, even when we both had some awful case in front of the same judge. He was such a gentleman, tried to make me go first. I swear I saw him just a couple of months ago. I am really going to miss seeing him, as is my geeky husband. wow, hope you don't have macs up there, Jaime!

I first met Jaime through his sister, Anna Marie, when we were in junior high school. He was so bright and funny, even then. We reconnected as superior law clerks. Jaime had become a kind, funny and genuine person. My deepest condolences to Lori, Ana Marie and his mother and father.

I always enjoyed talking to Jaime and laughing with him. What a nice, kind person! He was brilliant with a computer and his "Jaime-law" workers' compensation database, as we called it, was a blessing to me in my law practice years ago. I will miss you my friend. Rest in peace.
