It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Colonel Camilo Alviar Hidalgo, who departed this world on January 21, 2026, at the age of 76 in
Newport News, VA. Born on September 12, 1949, in San Fernando City, La Union, Philippines, Col. Camilo was a man of incredible strength, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family and passions.
Col. Camilo's journey began in the vibrant landscapes of the Philippines, where he grew up with a deep appreciation for nature and a keen intellect that led to his pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Radio and Electronic Engineering from Feati University. His career took flight when he dedicated 29 years in the Philippine Air Force, rising to the esteemed rank of Colonel. He had flying status he was a navigator for the C-130 planes. He had been a squadron commandor for the 220th airlift wing at Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base, Lapu-lapu city, Cebu for several years until his retirement. He received many awards and merits because of his dedication to his work. His service was marked by integrity, leadership, and a commitment to excellence, qualities that were evident in every aspect of his life.
Beyond his professional achievements, Col. Camilo embraced life with a zest that was both inspiring and infectious. A lover of the great outdoors, he found joy in fishing, crabbing, and cycling, often seen with a serene smile as he tended to his garden or cared for his beloved fish tanks. His passion for animals, especially his cherished 3 cats; Gnar, Yuumi, and Babachingching and his dogs, knew no bounds, and his bond with them was truly special.
Col. Camilo relished moments spent with loved ones, whether it was riding his motorcycle, enjoying a spirited game of tennis, or savoring peanuts and seafood. He was an ardent admirer of Marcelito Pomoy and Manny Pacquiao, finding inspiration and pride in their talents. He also delighted in watching TV and honing his skills at the shooting range, constantly exploring new horizons with an adventurous spirit.
Preceded in death by his beloved son, Charlowe Hidalgo, and his parents, Clemente and Magdalena Hidalgo, Col. Camilo now leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 47 years, Carmencita, his children Chona Arles (Charles) and Clem Hidalgo (Cody), and his treasured grandson, CJ. His siblings Arthur Hidalgo (Gilda), Milagros Martinez (Fred), Mario Cesar Hidalgo (Teresita), and Carlito Hidalgo (Rosalina) will forever cherish his memory, along with his brother-in-law Fred Dreyfus (Linda), his cousin Minda del Rosario (Ruben), his niece Melanie Lacondazo (Mike), family friend Jun Fallesgon, and a host of dear family members and friends.
Col. Camilo's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and the pursuit of one's passions. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, reminding us all of the beauty and joy that can be found in each moment. Though he has left this earthly realm, his spirit will forever guide us in the paths we walk.
