Nancy Turnbull

Alamogordo, NM - Nancy Louise Turnbull (nee Overfelt), 86, passed away April 30, 2021, in Alamogordo, NM. She is survived by her husband Billy Turnbull, their six children, twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Nancy was born and raised in Santa Fe, NM, the oldest child of Louis and Rosine Overfelt. Her sister and brother both survive her. She was active in Girl Scouts as a child and was an accomplished vocalist and operetta performer while attending Santa Fe High School. A graduate of Santa Fe High and the University of New Mexico, Nancy went on to teach Home Economics at the secondary school level in Des Moines, Tularosa and Alamogordo High Schools. She also taught first grade at Father James B. Hay Catholic School in Alamogordo, and was for many years a tutor in the English Lab at New Mexico State University/Alamogordo.

Nancy enjoyed teaching and enriching young minds, but her 63 years as a devoted wife and homemaker are what she will most be remembered for. She referred to her children affectionately, and conveniently, as #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6. She was a great and enthusiastic cook, and took pleasure in sharing recipes, techniques, meals and baked goods with family, friends, and her church. Nancy's love of family never wavered and she relished every opportunity to welcome each child and successive generation - her heart brimming with love. Family and faith were the cornerstones of Nancy's life. She was a longtime parishioner of Saint Jude Catholic Church and led the Rosary for Peace ministry over the last several years.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at Saint Jude Parish in Alamogordo following recitation of the rosary, beginning at 10:15. Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
