Joseph C. Valenti

AGE: 81 • Milltown

Joseph C. Valenti, of Milltown, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at home. He was 81. Born in New Brunswick, he had lived in Milltown for the past 56 years. He and his late wife, Jane, summered in Point Pleasant Beach for the last 55 years. Joe was a graduate of Villanova University, Class of 1956, and served in the US Army.

He was an insurance agent with Snediker Valenti Inc. in New Brunswick. Before retiring in 2011, he worked as a consultant with Pavese McCormick in North Brunswick.

Joe was Past Exalted Ruler of the New Brunswick Elks 324, Past President of the Elks Handicapped Children's Foundation and past Secretary to the District Deputy.

He was very active in the Milltown community through the years, having served as a Milltown Councilman from 1962-1972. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Milltown, where he sang in the choir. He was a past member of, and held leadership positions with the Milltown Lions Club, Milltown Democratic Organization, Milltown Senior Citizens Club, New Brunswick Exchange Club, and Salvation Army New Brunswick Corps.

Joe loved to sing throughout his life, whether at St. Peter's High School, Villanova, Our Lady of Lourdes, and in plays with the North Brunswick Theater Group. He was a trumpet player, avid golfer, and loved to travel, having been to all 50 states.

He's predeceased by his wife Jane Reilley Valenti (d. Aug, 2015) and his brothers Thomas and Carl Valenti. Surviving is his son Joseph E. Valenti of Milltown; his daughter Ann V. Hartwick, and her husband Jack of Milltown; and his grandchildren Katie Murray of Philadelphia and Sean Murray of Hoboken.

Friends and relatives may call on Tuesday, March 8th, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St - at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 233 N Main St., Milltown. Disposition will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Special Children's Foundation of the New Brunswick Elks, 40 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
