Scott Hieber Obituary

Scott Kevin Hieber

Tinton Falls - Scott Kevin Hieber, 66, of Tinton Falls, NJ passed away in the early morning of July 26, 2018 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA after a long battle with mesothelioma. Scott was born December 15, 1951 in Waukegan, IL to John and Helen M. Hieber nee Christensen, the third of six children. The family relocated to Garden Grove, CA where Scott spent his young life. Scott received a bachelor's in philosophy from UC Santa Barbara in 1976, and later a master's in Public Administration from George Washington University in DC in 1985. Scott enjoyed a 30 year career at the Port Authority of NY and NJ, entering the firm in 1985 as a management intern. Through work in finance, aviation, public safety and real estate, Scott brought his unique focus and talent to everything he did, but he is most remembered by family and friends for his avocations. Scott developed keen interests in a great many things and like a true renaissance man excelled at them all. Scott taught himself the art of woodworking and built most of the furniture in his home. Scott's next great interest was gardening, which he practiced for a time on his lawn, but achieved true expertise in after his daughter's begged him for a dog; He convinced them to settle for fish which fostered his years' long love of aquatic gardening. For years the house was filled with as many as 12 fish tanks at a time, some of which, his girls claim could rival most public aquariums. Scott served on the Board of the Aquatic Gardeners Association, and for many years wrote a column in the Aquarium Fish International Magazine. Scott was a self-taught technical engineer, avid writer, painter, poet, and satirical commentator. There was nothing that Scott did not insist on doing himself. Incredibly intelligent and hardworking Scott brought with him, the same focus and talent to all his endeavors. Scott is survived by his wife, Cheryl Yetka: his daughters, Katherine and Emily Hieber; his brothers; John Hieber, Darrel Hieber and husband Stacy Wilson; his sisters, Kimberly and husband Ron Peterson, Wendy & husband Jack Abcarius; & his brother-in-law Steve Dexter. Scott is predeceased by his parents, John & Helen, &, his sister Mardene Dexter.
