Albert Joseph Modla

AGE: 91 • Holmdel

Albert Joseph Modla, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, in Holmdel at the age of 91. He was born in New York City in 1921, the second of three brothers. He resided in Clark for 62 years before moving to Holmdel 26 years ago. A proud World War II veteran, he served as a salvage diver from 1943 to 1946 whereupon he was Honorably Discharged having earned the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He worked as an electrician with the IBEW Union Local 102 until he retired in 1985.

"Uncle Al" will be long remembered for his quiet zen-like calm, his kindness to everyone, and a great love of gardening.

Surviving are his brother, Emil of Ohio; eight cherished nephews and nieces, many grandnephews and nieces, and lifelong friends. Albert Modla was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Tessie, and his eldest brother, Edward of Florida.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 and from 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Entombment will be in the Holmdel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mr. Modla's name to The Wounded Warrior Project, 7020 A.C. Skinner Parkway, Jacksonville, FL 33256.
