John Broadley

AGE: 83 • Somerset

Mr. John Broadley passed away Monday August 4th, 2014 at Spring Hills in Somerset. He was 83 years old.

Born in Scotland to James and Sarah (Young) Broadley, John served two years in the British Army, and came to the United States in 1955. He was a resident of North Plainfield for 40 years before moving to Somerset in 2004. Mr. Broadley retired after 40 years from Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals (now Novartis Pharmaceuticals) in Summit. A self-taught, accomplished artist, John loved classic films from the 1940's, and cheering on the NY Jets, Mets, and the Celtic F.C. in Glasgow.

Mr. Broadley was predeceased by his sister Catherine and brother David, both of Madison, NJ, as well as 6 brothers and sisters in Scotland. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Winifred (Maloney) Broadley; by their children, Helen Gaub and her husband Gene of So. Plainfield, John J. Broadley of Somerset, and Barbara Broadley of Rockaway, NJ; by his grandsons, Erich, John Michael, and Kyle, and granddaughter, Kimberly Ann; and by a brother and sister in Scotland.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 pm at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St. Somerset, NJ 08873. The funeral mass will be in St. Matthias Church JFK Blvd Somerset on Friday at a time to be determined. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association 331 Newman Springs Rd, Red Bank, NJ or at www.alz.org.
