Salo "Sal" Kluger

Salo "Sal" Kluger died on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at home. He was 69. A proud father, husband, and public servant, Sal dedicated his retired years to the preservation of Yiddish culture as a volunteer for the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA. Sal was born to Shoah survivors, Charlotte Mehl and Bernhard (Benek Lask) Kluger, in a displaced persons camp in Weiden, Germany. A Jewish relief agency relocated the family to Lynn, MA, where he spent his childhood. Sal met his wife of 47 years, Myrna (Glazer) Kluger, as a fellow student at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.

Sal served the public for three decades as self-described bureaucrat in the Internal Revenue Service. He retired in 2002 as Deputy Director for the New York Region after having led the agency's response to 9/11.

Surviving are his wife; his son Bernie and his wife, Laurel Blatchford, of Washington, DC; his daughter Frieda Gold and her husband, Michael, of the Bronx, NY, and three granddaughters, Miriam, Eleanor and Lucinda.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, 7/17, at 10:15 AM, at Pride of Lynn Cemetery, Lynn, MA, under the direction of MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, East Brunswick, NJ (www.msmc.us).
