Paul B. Delaney Jr., 82, of Woburn, passed away Monday evening, March 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Melrose, he was the cherished son of the late Paul B. and Mary E. (Gordon) Delaney. Paul was educated in the Melrose school system and proudly graduated from Melrose High School. He continued his academic pursuits at Northeastern University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in accounting, laying the foundation for a distinguished and steadfast career.
Following graduation, Paul answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served during the Vietnam War, carrying with him the discipline, resilience, and sense of duty that would define the rest of his life. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned home and began his career in accounting, a profession that perfectly suited his analytical mind and steady temperament.
Paul held several respected roles throughout his career, including serving as Assistant Controller at C&K Components from 1975 to 1991. He later continued his work in the accounting field, ultimately retiring in 2015 from Interactive Data.
While working at C&K, Paul's life changed forever when he met the love of his life, Rosemary A. Zamagni. They married in 1981 and built a beautiful life together, centered on a shared deep devotion to family. Together they raised two wonderful daughters, Christine and Laura, who were the pride of his life. In time, his heart expanded even further with the arrival of four adoring grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy and renewed purpose.
Paul possessed a remarkable gift for understanding numbers, not only in the workplace but in the world of investing. An accomplished and disciplined day trader, he had a keen ability to recognize patterns and trends, carefully managing and growing his stock portfolio with patience and insight.
A devoted fan of Boston sports, especially the New England Patriots, Paul stood by his team through rebuilding years and celebrated their championship triumphs with unwavering loyalty.
The discipline instilled in him during his time in the Marine Corps was a natural extension of the character he had begun building in his youth. Growing up, Paul loved athletics and spent his younger years playing football, developing the toughness and determination that would stay with him throughout his life. He remained deeply committed to physical fitness and could often be found running or taking daily six-mile walks around Horn Pond.
In quieter moments, Paul found peace tending to his garden, enjoying the simple satisfaction of working the soil and watching things grow. In his younger years, he also spent time with the "Hard Guys" drag racing team, helping to build and maintain the cars. It was a hobby that reflected his patience, mechanical skill, and enjoyment of working with his hands.
In addition to his parents, Paul was sadly predeceased by his loving wife, Rosemary A. (Zamagni) Delaney who passed away in 2016.
He is survived by his children, Christine Crudele and her husband Peter of Danvers, and Laura Delaney Crayton and her husband Matthew of McKinney, TX, a brother, Daniel J. Delaney and his wife Carol of Atkinson, NH, four adoring grandchildren, Jackson Crudele, Zoey Crudele, Claire Crayton and Anna Crayton, as well as several nieces, nephews, in-laws and close friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service, with military honors, on Monday, March 9, at 7PM at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 5PM to 7PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of his family.
