Richard P. Cullen

Richard Paul Cullen, age 71, of Marshfield, passed away on March 6, 2026. He was born in Hanover, NH, to Paul Cullen and Mary (Curran) Cullen.

Richard “Dick” lived life with remarkable energy, generosity, and an adventurous spirit. His willingness to take risks to pursue his passions gave him the ability to experience great success and joy throughout his life. He loved to share these gifts with his family and friends.

Richard’s family moved to Woburn, MA, before moving to Marshfield when he was young, and he proudly called Marshfield home for the rest of his life. He attended Marshfield schools and graduated from Marshfield High School in 1972.

After graduation, Richard began his career as an electrician and founded Cullen Electric in 1974, quickly earning a reputation for hard work, integrity, and craftsmanship. He later expanded his professional pursuits and established Cullen Home Builders, becoming a respected builder and developer on the South Shore. Among his many projects, the Arrowhead Development in North Marshfield stands as a testament to his vision, skill, and commitment to quality construction that helped shape the local community.

Richard approached life with enthusiasm and a deep curiosity for new challenges. A man of many talents and passions, he was a licensed pilot, competitive race car driver, and accomplished cyclist.

In motorsports, Richard achieved national recognition when he won the STU National Championship at the 2010 SCCA National Championship Runoffs, one of the most prestigious amateur racing events in the country. His dedication, precision, and competitive spirit earned him the respect of fellow racers across the sport.

Cycling was one of Richard’s great lifelong passions. An avid road and velodrome cyclist, he found joy not only in competition but in the friendships and camaraderie of the cycling community. In 2021, he captured a gold medal in the Men’s 65–69 Points Race at the USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships and later that year earned a silver medal as part of a U.S. team in the Men’s 65+ Team Pursuit at the UCI Masters Track Cycling World Championships. Whether training, racing, or riding with friends, Richard was happiest on his bike and inspired many with his dedication, sportsmanship, and love of the sport.

Richard also used his love of cycling to support causes close to his heart. He participated in numerous charitable rides, including the Pan-Mass Challenge, Best Buddies rides, and the MS Ride on Martha’s Vineyard, raising funds and awareness for important causes while doing what he loved.

For many years, Richard volunteered at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, helping bring joy, encouragement, and unforgettable experiences to children facing serious illness.

Above all, Richard loved his family. He is survived by his son, Mathew Cullen of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; his daughter, Molly Cullen and her husband John Doherty of Marshfield, and their sister Mia Camelio of Florida.

He was “Grampy” to the love of his life, his granddaughter, Camila Jo Doherty, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

Richard was a devoted father, brother, and uncle who cherished time spent with his large and close-knit family. He shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and adventures with his siblings and took great pride in watching his children, nieces, and nephews grow.

He is also survived by his siblings: Marylane Cullen of Sandwich; Michele Hogan and her husband Robert of Marshfield; Patricia Leatherbee and her husband Thomas of Carver; Kathleen McKennitt and her husband Donald of Mashpee; Thomas Cullen and his wife Cyndi of Marshfield; Jack Cullen and his wife Megan of Marshfield; and Paula White and her husband Douglas of Kingston, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Richard will be remembered for his boundless energy, adventurous spirit, generosity, and the deep love he had for his family and community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the community he helped build, and the many miles he rode alongside friends and fellow cyclists.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Christine’s Church, 1295 Main Street (Rte. 3A) in Marshfield. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. on Monday for the funeral procession. Burial will be in the Couch Cemetery.
