James (Jimmy) J. Murphy, 71, of Marshfield passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 24, 2026. Born and raised in Somerville, MA, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Tarrant) Murphy. He later moved to Marshfield where he shared 42 wonderful years with his devoted wife Lisa and raised their children.
Jimmy was very active in the Marshfield community where he coached youth sports, was a member of the planning board, a eucharistic minister at Saint Ann by the Sea, and past board president of the Marshfield Boys & Girls Club.
He was a long-time employee of South Shore Hospital where he retired to spend time with his family and pursue his passions of golf and bocce.
Jimmy was one of 11 children where he developed his strong sense of family. His family was everything to him. He was the devoted father to Timothy Murphy and his wife Amanda Hesse of Hingham, MA and Maggie Murphy and her husband Aaron Eisenberg of West Hartford, CT. His greatest joy was being Papa to his grandchildren Rory and Nora.
He is survived by his siblings Judy, Brian, Mark, Dennis, William, Maureen, Stephen, David and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers John and Kevin.
Jimmy will be remembered for his love of life, dry sense of humor, generosity and devotion to his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
